The North Kohala Eat Locally Grown Campaign takes place Sat., September 25 - Sat., October 2, 2010. This campaign is just one small step to help move towards our community goal (from the North Kohala Community Development Plan) of ”producing 50% of the food we consume.”

Saturday, September 25th

North Kohala Eat Locally Grown Day
Participating local restaurants and markets feature North Kohala produce, fish, and meats.
Food Swap and Drop at the Hawi Farmer’s Market
Backyard farmers can drop off their back yard food abundance at the Hawi Farmer’s Market to be shared or traded.
Introduction to Laau Lapaau (Traditional Hawaiian Medicine)
Pamela Noeau Day shares Papa Henry Auwae’s philosophy and knowledge of herbs and spirituality.  Make laau preparations and take a short walk to identify and discuss laau.
Ka Hana No’eau Event
Join Ka Hana No’eau students and mentors to plant taro and enjoy local grinds.

Sunday, September 26th

Growing an Abundant Perennial Food Garden
Craig Elevitch, Neil Logan and Sophia Bowart will teach participants how to establish a low-input garden of perennial food plants that can feed a family healthy, fresh food for years to come. Brought to you by: Hawaii Homegrown Food Network.
